WINEMAKER’S NOTES

Deeply hued and alluring from the first glance. The nose opens with warm, vine-ripened raspberries and Italian plums, accented by savory notes of black olive and English breakfast tea. Secondary aromatics of sandalwood and subtle spice add further intrigue. The mid-palate is elegant and approachable, balancing mouth-coating tannins with silky fruit and a refined thread of minerality. The finish is taut and lively. This densely structured Pinot will reward patience in the cellar for years to come.

Vintage Notes: What a vintage! While our farming efforts are never “easy,” 2023 proved to be as close to that as it gets. A late bud-break due to a stubborn winter led to a very late kick-off to the green season in April. It’s a good thing we received ample winter precipitation, as the summer growing season was drier than normal. The dry weather relieved any mildew pressure we usually battle here in the Willamette. The summer was simply delightful with highs in the 80’s nearly all summer. We finished up our harvest right before the first rains came in late September. The 2023’s exhibit incredible color, beautiful aromatics, and fantastic acidity. It’s early, but it might be my favorite vintage we’ve had of Toil. It’s at least right up there with my current favorite, 2015!

CRITICAL ACCLAIM

97 pts - Owen Bargreen

Dark in the glass, the 2023 ‘Reserve’ Pinot Noir really needs about an hour of air to fully be aroused. Dark rose petal and milk chocolate notes combine with green herbs, black raspberry and shades of peat moss on the nose. The complex, heady and invigorating aromatics bring you back to the glass for more enjoyment. The palate is seamless and also bursting with flavor, with an ebullient core of black and red fruits that greet you alongside its silky texture and refined minerality. This is the best yet from this house. Drink 2025-2043 - 97
