WINEMAKER’S NOTES

Remarkably dark for Pinot Noir. The aromas lead with radiant red fruit followed by subtle complexities of forest floor, baby mushroom, wet bark, and damp earth. The palate is silky and indulgent, bursting with ripe berry fruit and supported by supple acidity. The finish is long, pure, and polished, with fine-grained tannins and lingering freshness.

Vintage Notes: What a dream vintage 2024 was! Nearly perfect growing temperatures all season long presented very few farming challenges, other than a rather large crop that required substantial fruit thinning. I don’t think I’ve ever seen so many clusters on the ground to reach our desired crop level for quality. Our Estate Pinot Noir was all harvested on September 28th, with the Chardonnay coming two days later. The gorgeous, cool September rendered amazing flavors to the fruit with crisp acidities. I am pleased to say they have all the characteristics of an all-time Willamette Valley vintage!

CRITICAL ACCLAIM

95 pts - Owen Bargreen

The 2024 TOIL Pinot Noir is a top-notch effort that was stored in a small amount of new French oak prior to bottling. Black truffle shavings and black raspberry notes fill the nose alongside peat moss and shades of rocky soils. The palate is fresh, viscous, and polished as this glides on the mid-palate. Plenty of lip-smacking freshness greets you alongside the concentrated red and dark fruits with earthy accents. A gorgeous bottling in its youth, be sure to give this an hour or two in the decanter if savoring now. Drink 2026-2046

94 pts - International Wine Report

Youthfully compelling yet already remarkably composed, the 2024 Toil Pinot Noir from Oregon opens with turned earth, shaved woodland mushroom, crushed basalt, and a dark-fruited perfume that leans toward Marionberry and Morello cherry rather than overt sweetness. A discreet touch of French oak lends polish without intruding, allowing the wine’s satiny texture and sleek concentration to carry the center of the palate with confidence. Bright acidity keeps the fruit energized and mouthwatering, while savory notes of forest floor and mineral nuance add definition and lift.
